An Appartment Entryway Renovation

There is a lot to dislike when it comes to renovations and the process one has to go through it. It is a lot of mess, dust, debris and what not; but what is to love about them is how rewarding they can be.

No mater how messy and difficult renovations may turn, I still love them and I do not hesitate to undertake such projects because I just love that feeling when some not so pretty spaces, and may I say sometimes pretty ugly ones, turn into a loving space to cherish and enjoy in years to come.

Couple of months ago I was involved in an apartment entryway renovation, which exactly proves what I just said above.

It is a 60’s apartment with an entryway which is quite narrow and long, providing the entry into 2 bedrooms and the livingroom/kitchen on the right, and the bathroom at the front.

On the opposite side from the doors there were built in storage and wardrobe cabinets and I am sure that in the 60’s this looked nice and pretty, but almost 60 years later it was time for a big change.

I worked on a very small budget which allowed only for the new front door cabinets, paint, light fixtures, and the Lion wall art.

There was no money left for the labour so I had to undertake the cleaning and paint job myself. Yes, it was a lot of work, mess, dust and a lot of sweat but, after two weeks of intense labour, everything looked so different, pretty, neat and clean.

The mirror used in this project is the existing one and it was DIY-ed for this project. I will share this DIY in my future postings.

The console table is an DIY from another project and it used to have four pin hair legs. I DIY-ed it, again, for this project by altering the top and removing two of its legs.

The entryway runners were created from an existing sisal rug; another DIY which I will be sharing in my future postings.

This entryway now looks much brighter, clean and neat, just what it is needed for my new interior studio space. I will be running my Home Decor styling busines from this location in the vicitinity of the city center. Although, short in square fottage compareed to my previous studio space, this one has more central location with the plenty of parking space neearby, something that my previous studio space lacked.

Now, are you ready for those BEFORE pics? “….Warning:BEFORE Images you are about to see may appear extremely depressing!!!! Viewers discretion is advised!!!!….”

Small Balcony Styling

Not everyone has an outdoor private space who would be able to go outside and enjoy the fresh air, step in green gras, have a favourite drink among trees and smell the flowers.

However, most of us have a balcony and no matter how small it is we can make it a cosy functional living space, and by adding some greenery, flowers and summer accessories we can turn it into an urban oasis to enjoy it all summer along.

So how to create an inviting outdoor living space in our small balconies where we can’t wait to return from our long day of work and have our well deserved favourite drink?

First, start by planing which layout of furniture would fit best to your balcony situation, number of people that need to be accommodated on a daily basis, the privacy issues and the sun exposure that may need to be addressed and so on. After considering all these factors we ca make a better decision on what furniture to choose and how to lay those pieces out.

When choosing the furniture the comfort is the key when it comes to your apartment’s outdoor space, so adding comfortable seating will turn your outdoor space into the perfect place to lounge.

This is exactly what I applied in this small apartment balcony which I styled early this spring. I used two existing old iron garden chairs and elevated them to a supper comfy seating by adding fluffy custom made cushions.

After choosing the furniture, start adding pops of colour to your balcony. Nothing brings a balcony more to life than fun accent colors. Be bold with your outdoor accessories by incorporating bright, cheerful colors that will put a smile on your face every time you step outside.

If you prefer a more neutral setting, try picking one color to highlight through decorative pillows and flowers. This is what I applied in this balcony.

To cosy up the space and to maybe address the flooring issues (not so pretty tiles or old surfaces) that you may have, adding an outdoor area rug or a runner could be a good solution. This will add warmth and will make your balcony more inviting. This is also a great opportunity to incorporate some texture (like a natural fiber rug), color, or a pattern for some character.

No outdoor space is complete without plants and flowers, so the next step is to create a small garden. Just because you don’t have a backyard to grow a garden, doesn’t mean you have to put an end to your green thumb. Create your own small garden on your apartment balcony by DIYing a wall planter, like this lattice which can either provide support to an ivy planted in a small planter or you can be more creative and hang other plants such succulents, various ferns or herbs.

And lastly bring on the accessories such as wall hangings, candles, jars and everything else that will make your balcony look pretty, and things that you will be using while spending time in it.

Once complete, I assure you that, your well styled balcony will turn into an extra cozy space to unwind in after work, or a spot to entertain friends and family all summer along.

Hana’s Bithday Celebration

On my previous post I talked about how and why I ended up in NYC at this time of year. Usually I go there at Chrismas time, but this time was for a special occasion.

Beginning of February my niece Hana, was about to turn 18th so she demanded that I fly to NYC to celebrate her birthday together. I promised her that I would be there on her birthday, and that I will even make her a fancy birthday cake.

I was as a bit nervous about how the cake will turn out but at the end Hana liked it and this is what matters. It was a chocolate cake with white butter cream inside, and it tasted delicious. Outside it was wrapped in beige fondant! It was my first time that I worked with fondant and, to make things worst, I had a small amount of fondant to work with. This made the decoration process a bit challenging for me; however, at the end the cake turned pretty. Not so perfect, but certainly cute and fancy!

Hana was at school at the time we baked the cake and decorated the table and the backdrop, so when she returned home she was pleasantly surprised and liked everything what we did. She even became emotional, so we saw a few happy tear drops on her beautifull smily cheeks. I knew Hana’s taste. She doesn’t like things to be over the top, in this case over the top decor. She would find it kind of “cheesy”, so I had to be carefull to not cross that line which would make the decoration seem “cheesy” to her.

For backdrop decoration we used gold round placemats we had at home, fancy pinwheels and HOORAY lettered sign purchased at Target, some tissue paper cut in wide stripes and fringed at both sides lengthwise which were hung at the right side of the wall. It was a very simple set up but it turned very pretty and effortlessly stylish.

Here are some of the photos from the celebration.

Time to lit the candles

Let’s cut the cake

Enjoying the cake

And later on she oppened the presents….

It was such a beautifull day filled with plenty of family love and happines.

Stroll Through Some of The Most Iconic New York City’s Buildings

My recent stay in NYC was one that will be remembered for its duration, fun and the great time spent with my sister, niece and nephew.

The idea to visit NYC during this time of year was initiated last summer by my dearest niece Hana. My sister, niece Hana, nephew Rron and I, usually spent summer holidays together in my beach house in Turkey. However, last summer Hana was not able to join as she attended an interesting summer IT programming course in NYC, but she demanded that I must visit in February and celebrate her 18th birthday together. I promised her that, no matter of what, I would be there on her birthday, and I will even try to make her a fancy cake.

So I did. I arrived in NYC four days before her birthday, made her the cake, celebrated her birthday, and stayed two more weeks in Big Apple strolling through the fun and grand streets of Manhattan and enjoyed the beauty of some of its majestic buildings.

1.The Metropolitan Museum Of Art

Whenever I visit The Met I am always amazed not only by the work of art gathered there, but also by the building’s grandness.

The museum’s original architect Calvert Vaux designed a High Victorian Ghotic-style building for the museum, but its president soon regarded the building as a “mistake” with its outdated style, and engulfed the structure with further expansions making it the largest museum in the United States.

I was lucky to visit The Met at the time when Michelangelo’s work of art gathered from the museums around the world as well as from private collections was exhibited at the museum. It was a life time opportunity, and I am so lucky that I got to experience that.

The Building

Michelangelo’s Work of Art

3New York Public Library

It is simply grand building from the outside and in. Two marble lions, known as Patience and Fortitude, flank the building’s main entrance along Fifth Avenue; inside, the Rose Reading Room may be the loveliest and most majestic public space in New York. The 51-foot high ceilings feature intricate sculpted moldings and painted clouds. It is also one of the city’s newest landmarks.

3.Grand Central Terminal

I read somewhere that this building is over a century old and is home to many hidden treasures. There is the Whispering Gallery close to the iconic Oyster Bar; the Campbell Apartment, a hidden bar within an old office; the secret tunnel that connected the train station to the Waldorf Hotel; and the fabled “M42,” a bunker that may contain electrical equipment, but no one really knows. But if you never uncover its secrets, you won’t be missing out the terminal’s grand main concourse, which makes the terminal perhaps the prettiest train depot in the United States.

In one of the tunnels of the terminal you may enjoy the best napoleon pastry at Financier patisserie. My sister and I shared one napoleon, and it was the best of the napoleons I have eaten so far.

4.Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

Always love to visit this site, be it as a by passer or when attending the performances at the theatres or at Opera House. The Center’s main plaza and its iconic illuminated fountain is a New York City site landmark on its own.

Verdi’s “Il Travatore” was the opera that my sister and I attended this time at the Metropolitan Opera House. Thanks to my niece Hana we landed superb orchestra seats at very affordable price, and the performance of the “Il Travatore” opera cast was superb.

5.Rockefeller Center

Place where everyone wants to be during the Holiday Festivities and take a picture of beautiful decorated settings. It is fabulous place around the year though.
It was quite chilly the day we visited the site, but it is always fun being there and snapping some pics.

6.St. Patrick’s Cathedral

The City’s most famous of worship is a neo-Gothic marvel, with ornate decorative elements-spires, stained glass windows, marble cladding that makes it stand out amid Midtown’s skyscrapers. The massive renovation project which began in 2012, has restored some of the church’s most iconic elements including the heavy bronze doors, its ceiling, and the massive organ.

During my stay there I also took every opportunity to stroll through the magnificient central park and enjoy everything this beautiful place has to offer. It is a stunner in every possible way.

And eventually the day to return back home came as planned, so I left this place filled with fantastic memories and beautifull time spent with my sister and her family.
Until next time!

The New Year’s Eve Table Setting

The countdown to NYE is on, and my table is already set.

Usually my table is not set up early on a day, but I liked so much the table decor which I designed for the National Television RTK, the Morning Show so I had to use it for my dinner party tonight.

I was invited to set a festive table for the RTK Morning Show and share some table decorating tips with the viewers. The table decor came out really nice and elegant, so I decided to use the plates, cutlery and all decorative elements for my New Year’s Eve dinner party.

I am happy to share some of the photos of this festive table!

Enjoy, and Happy New Year 2018!

May this New Year be filled with happiness, prosperity and plenty of health!

Rustic Holiday Table Setting

The dinner table has always been a place to gather with family and friends for good food and good conversation. So many memories are made at the table, and especially during the magical Holiday Season.

I love to entertain — and enjoy making the table look inviting.  I find that part to be the most fun, and always keep myself showering with the questions like:  What will I use for the centerpiece?  Will I have a color theme?  Candles or flowers?  Round or Square plates? And the list goes on!

This year I felt that I should have a Rustic Holiday Decor. I wanted to bring the outside in with natural greenery using elements from nature that are growing wild outside our door.

The centerpiece for a rustic tablescape doesn’t need to be anything fancy or elaborate, therefore, I DIY-ed this long garland from fresh pine branches where I arranged cut pomegranates and small green apples.

In between the garland branches I placed thick candles in variety of heights. For the true rustic look I did not use a tablecloth, so everything is layered on a black surface of my dining table and even without any addition of the china, cutlery and glassware it looked so stunning.

For the placemats I chose wood looking ones, and for that true rustic look I mixed and matched the glassware using different types of crystal from my collection. Mismatched crystal looks sophisticated yet not too serious.

The cutlery was also vintage, a set that used to belong to my in laws, and was not in use for decades. The china is also a vintage set that I purchased 30 years ago, but which is super cute and I never wanted to get rid of, and I am glad I didn’t!

On top of the plate settings I placed a pear, an organic gift for each guest. The pears added a whimsical touch to my rustic decor and it looks stunning!

Everything on this table is so simple, mixed and matched, and the effect of combining all these things together worked perfectly. The table setting looks so earthy, organic, fruity and inviting. I am loving it!

So my friends, the Holiday Season becomes truly magical thanks to our desire to make it look as such. Anyone of you out there, with a bit of effort and a lot of passion can turn any simple table into a magical setting.

May you have a Magical Holidays!

Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!

My Festive Mantel Decor for 2018

Holiday decorating is one of the most magical elements of the festive season. Bringing the Holidays to life with imaginative decorating ideas for indoors and outdoes is a lovely way to surprise family and friends at a time of the year which is meant for delight.

However, when it comes to decorating for the Holidays I tend to lean towards modern, minimalist decor which suits busy people who love decorating and entertaining without putting so much time and effort into decorating process.

First thing that got decorated in my house this year was our fireplace, and although it looks grand and luxe, it was so simple and easy to create the look.

I wanted a mantel decor that is modern and traditional at the same time.

So to achieve the desired look I DIY-ed a 5 meters long garland from the fresh pine branches and added some eucalyptus leaves here and there.

Above the fireplace I hung my lovely brush stroke painting which I painted two years ago.

For that anticipated modern look I placed clusters of black candles on each side of the mantel and to add a traditional flare to the look I added subtle peach silk ribbons; and at the same time for wanting these bows to still look modern I toped them with a black cotton ribbon. The black ribbon complements the black candles and it really gives the whole scene a modern look.

So, this year also, my mantel is pretty simple, and super easy to decorate. And, if you make your own garland and have some candles around (which I am most sure everyone does), this is an easy and non costly decorating project to undertake.

Are you done with your Holiday decorations yet? If not than it is time to hurry up! The Holidays are just around the corner and you want to see those happy faces of your family and friends when they enter your decorated house!

Happy Holiday Decorating,

My Whimsical Outdoor Christmas Tree

Ever since I planted my evergreen trees in my backyard few years back, I always envisioned some of them being decorated for the Holidays. It never happened though; until this year. The weather was nice and warm last days of November, so I decided that I would take advantage of this weather and decorate one of my backyard trees.

Before starting to decorate I had to come up with a theme, and this part was a bit challenging. I wanted a theme that would be interesting, unusual and fun at the same time, and I had no idea what would that be.

How I came up with the idea is a funny story itself. I was shopping for good deals this past Black Friday, and I happened to find beautiful knitted hats on sale. The store offered a big discount on hats and they were all mixed up in a huge tall bin. The challenge was now to find the red coloured ones only. It took me almost an hour until I found a dozen of them, and then I just stopped because my back was hurting from digging in that deep box full of hats.

So my friends, this is how I came up with the decorating theme for my outdoor Christmas tree. I thought that knitted hats for outside decor make sense. They reflect warmth and relaxation, just what we need during a Holiday season.

To add the festive touch to these hats, using a glue gun, I added a white deer ornament to each of them and some white fur at the top.

To add more to the festive look I made some weather proof cartoon boxes by wrapping them with the plastic foil first and then wrapped them with another layer of decorative fabric, so they would resist the rain and snow.

I decorated the tree mostly with white ornaments, white and gold ribbon and added a lot of white snowflakes, and lastly I hung the red knitted hats.

The addition of hats on the tree made it look so whimsical and so fun.

My backyard this year is looking prepared for the Holidays!

And most important thing: my furry best friend IMMO is loving it!

Decorating Around a TV – DIY Project

Earlier, when TVs were enormous and bulky, decorating around them represented a real challenge. Luckily, these days although the sizes of TV sets may be large, they come in very flat and thin shape making it much easier to decorate around them.

There are plenty of ways to style a media stand, however one of my favourite looks is a symmetrical art display around the TV and this is what I did a few days ago for a small living room project in a rental apartment.

The console holding the TV was a classic piece of furniture, and I wanted to create a decorating concept that would somehow relate to this piece of furniture.

However, I also wanted to maintain and apply the eclectic decorating style that I am inclined of. Having this in mind, I decided that I would create a modern wall art pieces, but I would hang them in an old fashioned way so they would,in a way, somehow relate to the classic style of the console.

To create this look I used inexpensive black frames, lined them with off white card stock paper:

inserted a 5 cm wide black self adhesive paper at the centre;

glued a dried spring of eucalyptus on top;

and assembled the frame;

At the back I stapled two pieces of ribbon at each end and tied a bow at the top, and after hanging the first one on the wall I thought they looked so fun and eclectic.

It was a super easy decorating project, but the impact it had on this rather small living room was huge. The room now looks grand and large and everybody just loves it.

Dinning Spot Transformation

BESA

Apartment sizes have lately shrunk drastically, especially those located in big cities. Spare square footage has become a real luxury, so most people are left with an option of “living small”. Furnishing a tiny apartment is quite challenging, especially if you already own furniture which may or may not fit nicely in your new tiny space.

However, no matter of how challenging the furnishing of a small space may be, if you apply a good design, you ma create a feeling of “living big” even in a tiniest apartment space.

Lately, I was involved in an open plan living room project (in a tiny apartment), where I had to fit an existing dinning room table and chairs in a tiny kitchen space; and I also challenged myself to make this space look much bigger, elegant and stylish.

To achieve the bigger space effect I used stripes.

I had a small amount of black leftover paint from a previous project which was just enough to add a few horizontal stripes to the wall where I was planning to fit the dinning table.

Within few hours of light work this spot changed dramatically to this:

For the wall decor I created this three-dimensional wall art.

A simple project where I used existing frames and on top of the glass I glued a set of cutlery. For special effect and to add some colour, I used a red frame, backing of which was removed so the stripe on the wall would be visible.

I used a checked black and white table runner. Black stripes of the runner run opposite of the wall stripes so they create another depth. Adding some table decor made the dining spot look richer and more inviting.

With a few design tricks, within few hours this space looks bigger, prettier and more inviting, so the moral of this post is: You can “live big” in a small space if you apply a good design.

Attic Space Makeover

Attics are usually unfinished spaces known for being either neglected or cluttered. Almost everyone who owns such a space tends to keep sending there all those unused items that one is reluctant to throw them away. However some, who are in a possession of an attic, are not faced with the clutter or neglect issue, but rather are lacking either a working or living space. Finishing this space up costs money and this is why usually people keep postponing tackling such projects.

Nevertheless, in case you are in a need of an extra space, the lack of financial means doesn’t have to be the major issue of not tackling an attic project.

By being creative and with the use of some DIY skills you can turn your bare attic into a very stylish space.

This is an example of an attic space that I managed to turn into a very stylish space, in less than 24 hours spending only a few euros.

To achieve this look I used a roll of white table cover paper to hide the bare front wall. The side attic openings were treated with white second hand curtains. The floor was covered in black sheet of plastic that is used in agriculture.

The used furniture pieces were repurposed and remodelled to fit the overall design.

As the attic lacks natural light more artificial light was aded to make the space a bit brighter.

So don’t let your mudroom, basement or garage fall victim to clutter and neglect. Update your specialty rooms with these money-saving ideas or call a professional to help you complete your projects.

Boho Chic Picnic

It seems that this year we are going to have an extended summer. With temperatures hitting as high as 30 centigrade almost every day, it would not be a bad idea to plan a picnic. Who doesn’t love kicking back to eat delicious food in the sunshine with good company?

This is what we did on several occasions last year together with my mom, sister and my nephew. Since we really enjoy picnicking, I’d like to contribute some tips and tricks to help you host a perfect picnic .

Location
You can have a picnic pretty much anywhere, but your choice of setting is one of the most important considerations when planning your picnic.

Do you want to hike to a picturesque spot, connecting with nature ? If so, get your walking boots on and pack light, taking only the essentials in a rucksack; food, drink and a blanket to sit on!

Do you want to dine in a place with wooden picnic benches to avoid sitting on the ground? If so, you can take more with you as, most probably, there’ll be parking close by.

As far as location is concerned, you could even have a picnic in your own garden or backyard if you don’t have much time to spare. Prepare your picnic as you would if you were visiting a park! This is what we did in one of the occasions. We picnicked in one of the corners of my backyard, and we had so much fun!

Comfort is key
A picnic is the ultimate chill out so it’s important that comfort is one of your main considerations.
A picnic isn’t a picnic without a blanket, and it is advisable if it is waterproof. You can buy a cheap shower curtain at a dollar store and place it underneath the blanket to instantly waterproof it. Scatter the blanket with cushions from your sofa for an instant boho chic vibe.

For our picnic I used my oversized decorative sofa cushions and instead of a blanket I used my patio carpet which is for an outdoor use. The use of these cushions gave this picnic that boho chic vibe.

Food, Glorious Food
Food is a must for every picnic, so bring cold dishes that do not require reheating, sweets and do not forget fruits.

No picnic is complete without drinks. Opt for refreshing homemade drinks like lemonade or nonalcoholic cocktails containing mint and other refreshing herbs.

Styling
To enhance the enjoyment of your picnic experience, you may want to do a bit of styling of the picnic venue.

Inject lots of color into your picnic with plenty of hot pink, navy and other colors of your choice.

Keep the bugs away with giant citronella candles and set out your summer snacks on mix and match china plates.

Fill a vase with your favourite flowers and serve up a batch of your favourite drink in a cool carafe. Put a string of solar lights, just in case you will stay longer until it gets dark.

The fall is already here and there are only e few warm, sunny days left to enjoy this year; so, grab your picnic basket, a blanket, pack up your favourite snacks and fruit, some decorative accessories, find a nice, shady spot for your picnic and enjoy it. It is so much fun, as these photos can tell!

My Pergola Design

I am happy that my pergola project, which started 3 years ago, finally came to an end this summer.

My summer house has two fair size patios and each of them provides shade in different times of day. One is good to use in the mornings, up to the midday, while the other one (shown in the photos) is shady and cool in the afternoons.

However, both patios did not have any visual appeal and seemed so uninviting, boring and without any personality. Owning this place for about 14 years, it was about the time that I had to do some changes and infuse a bit of personality to the outdoor space so it would look more inviting and homy.

Four years ago I started with a simple pergola design sketch, and headed to different local carpenter businesses. All of the businesses that I contacted seemed to be willing to take up the job, but their quotes were nothing less than an overcharge. Not getting a god deal made me postpone this project for another year, and that is what I did.

Previous summer I was lucky to find a good carpenter that gave me a good deal, but I had to wait all summer for him to get his job done. By the end of the summer season last year, the pergola structures were erected in both patios, but unfortunately I did not get to enjoy them as the summer season was ove and I had to get back home.

Finally, this year the whole pergola project was completed fully and I got to enjoy the outdoors in my summer house at max.

In order to add some extra shade to the patio I covered the open roof of pergola with 80 cm wide white fabric.

Each stripe of fabric was cut and hemmed with a special polyester thread which is resistant to UV rays. Each end of the fabric stripe was hemmed with navy fabric cut in bias. This small detail added a very stylish and sophisticated look to the whole structure.

The pergola now acts as a canopy over our dining table, providing both shade and intimacy.

Our patio is much more inviting now and it seems like we have more livable space as compared to before.

No doubt that pergola has created a shady retreat to our patio and, moreover it serves as a major landscaping element to our backyard.

I couldn’t be more happier with the result. I am loving it!

Do you or anyone else you know has a living or working space that is in a need of a makeover? If so write at besagmblog@gmail.com , send the pics of your place and we will take it from there! We would love to help you creating an inviting space, with a lot of visual appeal and personality for less!

DIY Gold Wall Clock- How I Did It

I get many questions in relation to how I DIY-ed the gold oversized clock used as an accessory for my niece’s bedroom makeover project.

It was an easy DIY done supper fast and, since I found some pictures during the proccess, I am happy to share this project with all my readers.

I used a simple round clock diameter 60 cm, bought in a local supermarket. It was un ugly wall clock, but I already had a picture in my mind on how it will look after I put my hands on it.

Using a screwdriver I took it all apart for making it ready for spray painting.

I started by spray painting the clock frame .

Further, I replaced the clock face, that had roman numbers, with a stock paper spray painted in gold.

Instead of numbers I placed self adhesive black dots, which in fact are the floor protectors used for furniture legs.

Lastly I put back the clock arrows and screwed together other parts of the clock.

It was a super easy DIY project, but with a great impact in the whole design of the room.

Bar Stool Covers For Instant Temporary Transformation

Even though my kitchen leather barstools were in a perfect shape, I wanted to give them a new trendy look.

Being covered in leather, they are so easy to maintain; you just wipe them clean once in a while and they stay spotless.

While I love the easy maintenance side of leather I wasn’t loving their boring look so I had to do something which would make my stools supper cool without jeopardising the aspect of easy maintenance.

I came up with a solution; making separate slipcovers for my leather kitchen stools. I made separate slipcovers for the backs and the seats of the stools. I will be using slipcovers for the backs most of the times and, depending on the mood, i will be using those for the seats also.

The cool black and white brushstroke design fabric design was a perfect solution for achieving a supper cool look. The possibility to use slipcovers separately was also a good idea, and the fabric I chose very well combined with existing leather.

To make slipcovers I used pin fit method for each stool, and then I sew them together. They came perfect and really brought a new vibe to my kitchen.

My kitchen is spring ready! How about yours?

A eshte edhe kuzhina e juaj gati per pranvere?

DIY Spring Flowering Bulb Arrangement

I love spring! This winter was pretty harsh here in Pristina, Kosova and even though the spring is just around the corner I am impatiently awaiting for the weather to improve, and to start seeing all those pretty bulbs make their way through the soil, and prettify my garden.

However, this does not mean that I had to wait and do nothing until spring comes! Last weekend I picked up a couple of vases filled with hyacinth in a local market and rearranged them in hurricane vases. They came pretty nice and really turned my home on a spring mode. They look pretty and have filled my home with a beautiful scent.

To make this arrangement you will need:

hurricane vase or any other glass vase
white sand
any kind of flowering bulbs – I used hyacinth bulbs

Place a generous amount of sand in a vase. Make a shallow hole in the middle of the sand, and place the bulbs. Add some remaining soil to fill the gaps between bulbs, and you are done.

Beje Vet – Aranzhman pranveror i zymbylit

Me pelqen shume stina e pranveres!

Dolen shume bukur dhe vertet e sollen pranveren brenda shtepise e posaqerisht e mbushen tere shtepine me ere te kendshme pranverore.

Per t’a bere nje aranzhman te tille ju nevojiten:

vazo e gjate qelqi
zalle me ngjyre te qelte
cfardo lloj lule pranverore nga bulbat- une perodora zymbyla

How To Celebrate a Valentine’s Day At Home

4
There are a million ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Some people keep it classic with a romantic date night, and some make it all about the kids….This year, would be a great idea to have a casual and festive dinner party with family and friends – this heartfelt holiday doesn’t have to be all about romance. Plan a simple menu, play a fun game featuring your favorite love songs, and celebrate LOVE.

Here are a few tips for making your Valentine’s Day party festive and fun at home:

Use something unexpected… meaning, put a unique twist on Valentine’s Day decor. For example, use or decorate ordinary home items to use them as backdrop or table decor. For this featured decor, I decorated a simple black tray with pink roses made from kitchen paper napkins, lined it with a marble contact paper and it turned quite pretty. It really made a big impact in the whole decorating scheme, so I decided to share the tutorial in my previous post.

Mix and match your china to achieve that casual and fun look. Use unusual items as centrepiece, like these gravy bowls, and a red cup used as a vase.

Do not be afraid to use what you find around the house; you will be surprised how things will beautifully come together once you are done with with decorating.

Show the love – A welcoming table inspires a casual and comfortable vibe for guests. Add a “sweet touch” by placing a golden heart sticker to the glasses, so guests feel the love as soon as they sit down. Also decorate the dining chairs with DIY puffy hearts, tutorial of which I shared here.

Serve up selection of dishes. Create a menu consisting of various items or suggest guests bring a side dish to turn your dinner or brunch into a potluck! Remember to ask everyone in advance what they’ll bring so you don’t end up with a menu of only sweet or savory items.

Disa e preferojne ate menyren klasike me nje darke romantike ne ndonje restoran, disa kremtojne me femijet e tyre etj.

Ja edhe disa keshilla praktike qe kremta te cilen e organizoni te duket me festive dhe qe te sjelle kenaqesi tek te gjite te pranishmit:

Gjithashtu, tabaken e mbeshtolla me leter vetengjitese me dukje te mermerit dhe ne mes vendosa nje zemer ngjyre ari.

Ato mund t’i punoni vet duke u sherbyer me instrukcionet te cilat i kam postuar vitin e kaluar ketu.

Sherbeni ushqime te llojllojshme dhe te lehta – Krioni nje meny qe konsiston ne ushqime te llojllojshme ose e beni nje lloj pjate kryesore vet dhe kerkoni nga te tjeret te bien pjata anesore keshtu qe edhe asnjeri nuk do te lodhet shume me pregaditjen e ushqimit dhe secili do te kenaqet me ndejen. Eshte mire qe paraprakisht te konsultohet secili se cfare do te sjelle ne menyre qe mos te perfundojme vetem me embelsira ose vetem me gjellera.

DIY Valentine’s Day Flower Wall Decor

11
I love everything that goes into party planning from styling the interiors and the table for my guests to cooking up the perfect dishes to serve, and I am happy to share with you some great ideas and tips for creating a fun + festive Valentine’s Day brunch or dinner party .

When it comes to styling an interior or a holiday party for your family and/or friends there are a few key elements to think about. First off, figure out where you are going to set up your table and what type of backdrop you want to create to set the stage. I always love a visual backdrop whether it be a festive garland or something on a larger scale. Make a big impact by re-creating this eye catching flower wall hanging decor… you only need a few simple items and it’s surprisingly easy!

WHAT YOU NEED:

paper napkins – pink
glue gun
paper clip gun
self adhesive paper – gold
self adhesive paper— marble look
round shape tray

DIRECTIONS:

Start with cutting three different sizes of petals. The size of the petals depends on how big you want the flowers to be. Make slits, about 2 cm deep, at the bottom of each petal. Start working with largest petals. Place one end of the cut petal above the other and secure it with paper clip gun. Do the same with all other petals, by creating the groups of three. Start assembling two sets of each size of the petals. Glue three different sizes of petals on top of each other, and you will end up with a pretty looking flower. Fluff the petals by separating napkin layers. For this project I used 12 flowers.

Get a a round tray. Flip it back and layer it with a self adhesive marble look paper. Using self adhesive gold colour paper, draw and cut a little heart shape, and stick it in the middle of the tray. Start gluing the flowers around the tray edge. Your wall hanging decor is ready to by hung.

Dekor Muri me metoden Beje Vet (DIY) per diten e Shen Valentinit

JU NEVOJITEN

Salveta letre – roze
ngjites i nxehte
kapse letre
leter vetengjitese- ngjyre ari
leter ngjitese – dizajn mermeri
tabake e rrumbullaket

PERPUNIMI

Mos haroni t’a vizitoni kete faqe neser, pasi qe do te bejme postimin e detajeve tjera festive te dekorit per kremtimin e Shen Valentinit.

Slow Cooker Noah’s Pudding or Ashura

ashura-5
Noah’s pudding or Ashura is a combination of healthy ingredients such us whole grain wheat, beans, dried and fresh fruits. Usually it is prepared and consumed during the winter, and this is one of the sweets, in line of many, that is reminiscent of my childhood and cold snowy days.

As children, we would return home from sled ride, all gathered around the wood stove, and enjoyed a bowl of fragrant ashura pudding while, all hungry, were waiting for the supper to be served.

These sweet memories keep coming back to me very often, and I cherish them by taking time to make dishes and sweets that my mother used to make for us, although now I tend to use shortcuts to make those dishes.

After buying a slow cooker, I see myself using it more often than I anticipated.
ashura-1
I do all my stews and traditional dishes such us stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls, bean soups etc. in this “mother of efficiency pot”. I just throw the ingredients inside ( and do proper preparation for some dishes) the pot, select the temperature, turn it on and leave the house to do my work errands. After I am back, I come home and my dinner is ready. It doesn’t get any better that this.

The same way I prepare the Ashura. I add the wheat and water in to the pot, and after 5-6 hrs in a low setting my ashura is ready to be spiced up and garnished with dried and fresh fruits.

So here is my easy slow cooker (crock pot) recipe for ashura.

Add in the slow cooker:

250 gr whole grain wheat, rinsed
2 l water

Set the setting in high or medium (depending on your slow cooker modes) and set the timer for 5-6 hrs. After this cooking time the wheat is totally cooked and released the starch which has thickened the water.

Transfer the cooked wheat in a ceramic bowl and stir in the following ingredients:

200 gr prunes- previously cooked
100 gr raisins
3-4 medium apples – peeled, core removed and chopped or thinly sliced
30 gr candied ginger – chopped
2 table spoons cinnamon
1/2 tea spoon ground clove
200 gr brown sugar
ashura-3
You may add other dried fruit as desired, but I only had those stated above in my pantry.
ashura-4
Store it in the fridge and it is good up to a week.

My DIY Decorations for the Holiday Table Setting

1-2

My Holiday tables setting this year involved a plenty of DIY decorations, and as I announced in my previous post, I am going to share all that with you in this post.

I will first start with the place cards. There is something special about the place setting cards in every event or family gatherings. It makes you feel really happy and special when you see your name on the table next to your seat. The joy is even bigger when you realize that all that was hand made.
img_9926
img_0022
I crated these little cupcake place settings using what I had at home and they ended up looking so cute, and really complemented the theme.
12

I wanted to have a simple centre piece and a lot of candles, but could not find a suitable candelabra that is close what I was envisioning, so I designed one and sent the sketch to the local blacksmith. He did the best he could in executing the design. The finished product does not have that polished factory look, but it is hand made and has the look that I envisioned. It looks great with the candles on.
thumb_img_0035_1024

26

The candles are also altered with this simple DIY. I wanted some golden sparkle on candles, so i wrapped the bottom of a candle with a 2 “ stripe of a golden self adhesive foil.
img_0041

img_0044

14

Instead of using napkin rings I simply tied the napkin with a very short piece of black cotton ribbon, and added a finishing touch by simply placing on top of the napkin a candy cane wrapped in a fancy gold wrapping paper. So simple, but it made a great impact in the whole setting.

img_0033

3-2
Paper starts are also a DIY and I created them using this tutorial
17

I also flocked my wreaths. The fresh handmade wreaths were showing some “wear and tear”. I made them too early this year and since they were placed right above the radiators they really dried out fast. So I had to intervene on them with another DIY. I flocked them, using first white decorative spray paint, then sprayed them with adhesive and then sprinkled them with artificial looking snow.

img_0030
27
And, lastly I altered my cutlery. This year I wanted a touch of gold in every detail, and I was really hopping that I will find a cutlery that has a touch of gold, but did not want to spend too much money on them. I was not lucky. Prices were to high for what was offered, and there is no Target where I live; hence, DIY came into play. I spray painted the cutlery handles.

img_0032
1
To prevent them from easy scratching, after the paint dried I applied a coat of boat varnish. They look great, and I will use them only for a fancy table settings. They are not dishwasher safe though, however I am not going to use them very often so hand washing is OK in this case.
10

To have a beautiful ad fun Holiday table setting does not take a lot of money to achieve the look you want. Some easy and simple DIY’s can do the trick. Happy DIY anyone who decides to undertake one of these projects.

Thank you for reading.

Tavolina ime festive me plot dekore me metoden Beje Vet (DIY)

Po filloi me kartat e venduljes per mysafir.

Gjithshtu i bera me debore artificiale kurorat nga gjethet e fresketa te pishes te cilat i kisha punuar shume me heret.

Disa dekorime me metoden Beje Vet jane nje nder truqet si si munde te arini pamjen qe e deshironi. Me fat puna Beje Vet per te gjithe ata te cilet do ta bejne ndonjerin nga keto projekte, dhe mos haroni t’a ndani me mua punen t’uaj.

Ju faleminderit qe vizituat kete faqe.
